I’d like to hear from all residents of St Barnabas ward – including those on Frank Webb Avenue, Badger Avenue, Kettell Avenue, Darlington Avenue and surrounding streets – about the roadside trees and how they may be affecting you
Tree maintenance has been a persistent issue in our area for some time. Unfortunately, Cheshire East Council has not dealt with these problems effectively, and this has had a real impact on the quality of life for many residents.
In the meantime I’ve worked closely with the Town Council’s rangers, who have done what they can to keep footpaths clear at head height – but as they are not qualified tree surgeons, their ability to resolve more serious issues is limited.
The real responsibility for these trees sits with Cheshire East Highways.
I’ve repeatedly raised these concerns to them, including a face to face meeting with the head of Highways, but progress has been slow and inconsistent. While I’ve managed to some targeted work – such as cutting back branches near street lights on Frank Webb Avenue and other locations to improve visibility and safety – the wider problems remain unresolved.
Previously, I delivered a letter to homes across the area, including every household on Frank Webb Avenue, to raise awareness and gather support. That work continues, and I’d now be very grateful if you could take a few moments to complete this short survey. Your feedback will help build a stronger picture of the issues residents are facing and will strengthen the case for action.
The more responses we receive, the louder our collective voice will be in pressing Cheshire East Council to take proper responsibility for maintaining these trees.
You may be experiencing issues such as:
- Damage to property
- Loss of natural light
- Street lighting being blocked
- Overhanging branches obstructing pavements
- Bird droppings on vehicles
- Slippery paths caused by fallen leaves
- Debris falling into gardens
Please complete the survey below and do encourage your neighbours to do the same. The more input we receive from residents, the greater the pressure we can put on the council to take this seriously.
How to complete:
- Fill in your name & address and email below
- Take a few minutes to give me your views.
- Press submit at the end of the survey.
