As a local councillor, I hear from residents every day about issues that affect our community. One concern that kept coming up recently was worn road markings – especially give way lines at junctions. A prime example was the Kettell Avenue / Bowen Cooke Avenue junction, where the lines had almost disappeared and it wasn’t always obvious who should stop.
Rather than just focusing on one problem spot, I decided to take a ward-wide look. I went out and assessed each junction myself, identifying where the markings had worn away and needed attention. I then submitted requests to Highways to have the necessary lines repainted. A few locations were judged still clear enough, but the rest have now been refreshed.
You may have already noticed a difference when driving into St Barnabas Ward. Clearer road markings make it easier for everyone to know who should give way, which helps make our streets safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Of course, while the refreshed lines are a positive step, there’s always more to do. If only Highways were as quick off the mark when it comes to repairing the actual roads!
I’m grateful to all the residents who brought these issues to my attention. Your feedback is invaluable – it helps me take action and make our ward a safer, better place to live. Please keep letting me know about things that need attention. Together, we can make a real difference.
