A Knockout Asset for Crewe – South Cheshire ABC Opens New Facility
This week I had the great pleasure of attending the official opening of the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club’s brand-new facility on Mirion Street in Crewe – and what an incredible development it is for our town, especially from the young people who were on hand to tell us more, and show us around!
From the moment I walked through the doors, I could feel the energy, excitement and pride that surrounded this new centre. The facility itself is impressive – featuring two boxing rings, training areas, a fully equipped gym, and a dedicated youth social space. But even more impressive is the atmosphere and the sense of purpose behind it all.
What stood out most during my visit was the clear positive impact the club is already having on the young people of Crewe. I had the opportunity to chat with several young members and hear their personal stories – how they discovered SCABC, what it means to them, and how it has helped them grow. Some spoke about how the club has boosted their self-esteem, given them focus, and helped them find their voice. Others shared ambitions to compete, to coach, or to simply continue improving themselves through sport.
This club is far more than a place to learn how to box. It’s a community hub – a safe, welcoming space where young people can build resilience, discipline, and strength of character. The sessions are structured and inclusive, with something for everyone:
-
Mini Boxers aged 5 to 10
-
Junior Boxers aged 11 to 16
-
Adult sessions for 16+
Whether someone wants to box competitively, get fit, or simply find a place to belong, SCABC opens its doors to all.
A huge thanks to Nathan Clarke, the club’s Head Coach and Founder, whose passion and commitment are at the heart of this project. Nathan has built something really special here, alongside the tireless support of Mike and Rob, trustees of Crewe Youth Club, and the wider team. Their vision and dedication have turned what was once just an idea into a reality that will benefit generations of young people.
I would also like to extend my thanks to all the volunteers who give up their time to help the club run smoothly, and to the local businesses and funding partners whose support has helped bring this centre to life. It’s a shining example of what can be achieved when a community pulls together.
As a local councillor, I am passionate about ensuring young people in Crewe have the opportunities and support they need to thrive. Projects like this play a vital role in achieving that aim. They not only provide physical activity but also foster ambition, community spirit and personal growth.
If you’d like to learn more, get involved, or support the club, I encourage you to visit their website at southcheshireabc.com or pop down to their open day Saturday 28th June, 10am to 4pm.

Crewe should be proud to have such a forward-thinking and inclusive club at its heart – and I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.
