As your local councillor I often receive feedback from residents about how they feel about our area, and I do my best to try and keep improving our St Barnabas community for all who live here.
One area that fellow residents often tell me about, especially when I am out and about in our ward is the area of trees behind the post box on the corner of Westbourne Avenue. Despite the new “Westbourne Avenue” sign I arranged, it still needs some love!
This area has become quite overgrown, and when we have been out on our community litter picks, we haven’t been able to get in here easily to clear it up. I wanted to change this.
The area is in fact not owned by Cheshire East Council— however I don’t think that’s a reason to ignore it! I got in touch with Guinness Housing, who own and manage that area.
We have had several recent meetings about clearing up this area, and making it a community space for all to use and enjoy. I am now working with Guinness to move the project forward, alongside their contractor Idverde. We hope to complete the project this Spring.

Some ideas included wildflower areas, benches where residents can sit and enjoy the area, and of course if anyone knows me—they’ll know I’ll certainly be wanting a litter bin (to join the 10 or so new bins I’ve had installed around the rest of our area)
I’m keen to involve as many people from the community as I can on the project. I’ve already had a meeting with the head teacher at Underwood West School to involve our local young people, as it’s key that they take an interest and are invested in our area. Ideas include the children painting bird boxes and making a visit to the area to be involved in the project.
But, I’d also love to hear from residents such as you—as you live close to this area. What would you like to see here? Would you be happy to be a “caretaker” of the area and help look after it once the project is completed? Please do contact me!
