I recently had the real pleasure of joining the Crewe 18th Brownies at their headquarters on Pyms Lane for a community litter pick around the local area.
It was Leader Gill who kindly invited me along, and I was delighted to support such a positive community activity. It was wonderful to meet the group and see first-hand just how enthusiastic the young people were about helping to clean up their neighbourhood. Their energy, teamwork and determination to make a difference was fantastic to see.
Over the course of the evening, the Brownies collected many bags of litter from around Pyms Lane, Minshull New Road and Badger Avenue. The girls worked incredibly hard and showed a real sense of pride in their community.
One question that came up again and again from the Brownies was: “Why do people drop so much litter?” It is a very fair question, and one that many adults could certainly reflect upon. The young people showed great wisdom and understanding about the importance of looking after our environment and respecting shared public spaces.
Community litter picks like this make a real difference, not only in helping to tidy our streets and green spaces, but also in encouraging civic pride and community spirit from a young age. The Crewe 18th Brownies should be extremely proud of the effort they made.
A huge thank you to all of the girls, their leaders and volunteers for their hard work, dedication and for making it such an enjoyable evening.
Thank you also to Crewe Town Council and Cheshire East Council for kindly providing the litter-picking equipment and for arranging collection of the bags of litter that were gathered during the session.
Well done to everyone involved.
