Fixing our roads in Crewe – Underwood Lane

Posted on 6 June 2025

I’ve been out on Underwood Lane again recently, taking a close look at the dreadful state of the road. This is something I’ve been reporting for many months now, and frankly, I’ve lost count of the number of potholes I’ve flagged up. Unfortunately, the repairs carried out so far have often been patchy and short-lived. Just recently, I logged some new potholes that have been marked for repair – but given the history, I doubt these will last long without more comprehensive work.

This isn’t a new fight. Long before I was elected in 2023, I was campaigning for better roads in our community. Working with the Highways department can be a slow process, as getting improvements scheduled and included in the annual plans of work isn’t always quick or straightforward. However, despite these challenges, I am not giving up. I am committed to pushing for real, lasting improvements.

I hear your frustrations loud and clear. Many residents have told me how fed up they are with the condition of our roads – not just on Underwood Lane, but across the wider St Barnabas area. That’s why I’m pushing hard for proper, lasting repairs on roads like Underwood Lane, West Street, Minshull New Road and several others. These roads are vital to our community, and they deserve to be safe and well maintained.

I’ve already shared updates regarding the plans for West Street, and I hope to be able to bring you a firm plan for Underwood Lane very soon. Your patience and support mean a lot to me, and I want to assure you that I am determined to keep fighting until our roads are back where they should be.

If you share my concerns and want to support the call for repairs, please do get in touch. You can email me directly at james.pratt@cheshireeast.gov.uk to raise your concerns. Every message helps strengthen the case for investment in our roads.

Thank you for standing with me on this – together, we can get our roads fixed and keep St Barnabas moving safely.
